Before the party plots and the LED walls, Navratri in Ahmedabad belonged to the street. Sheri garba is that garba — played in societies, pols and lanes, barefoot on the road, in circles that start after aarti and don't stop till the dhol gives up. What makes sheri garba different
The circle belongs to the society or the pol. There's no VIP tier, no bottle service — just a mandvo, a singer, and whoever lives on that lane.
Most sheris ask for nothing. A few issue guest passes to keep the crowd manageable — those show up here with the exact price before you commit.
Two-taali, three-taali, hinch and popatiyu — the traditional steps survive on the street long after they've been remixed on the big stages.
Sheri garba warms up around 10 pm and peaks past midnight. Come late, stay later.
Where to find it across the city
The old city — Khadia, Raipur, Dariapur — keeps the pol garba tradition closest to its original form. West Ahmedabad societies in Naranpura, Vastrapur, Bopal and Satellite run large, well-organised sheris, and Maninagar draws some of the biggest street crowds on the east side. Sheri garba questions, answered
- Sheri garba is street garba — the neighbourhood version of Navratri played in the lanes, societies and pols of Ahmedabad. A small stage, a live singer or a speaker, a chaniya-choli crowd of every age, and circles that keep growing until early morning. It is the older, community form of garba that came long before commercial party plots.
- Most sheri garba is free or nearly free for residents and neighbours. Some societies collect a small contribution or issue guest passes to manage crowd size. Anything ticketed on Raasly shows the exact price before you book; anything free is marked as free entry.
- Sheri garba usually begins after aarti, around 9:30–10 pm, and peaks between 11 pm and 1 am. Traditional circles often continue past 2 am on the later nights of Navratri.
